Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs)

SkyeDry™

Invented to improve formulation stability and to reduce absorption losses. This is especially useful for moisture sensitive and "unstable" compounds such as ipratropium and formoterol. The value of SkyeDry™ has been proven in several in-vitro studies and is incorporated into some of SkyePharma's late stage metered dose inhaler (MDI) products.

Skyefine™

The addition of CO2/N2O into MDI formulations results in higher fine particle fractions (that fraction of the aerosolized dose which comprises of small particulates able to reach the lung) for both solution and suspension aerosols. Compared to a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-driven reference MDI, the increase of the respirable dose is about 2.3-fold at the expense of undesired USP throat (which is an approximate simulation of the oropharynx) deposition. This process is associated with a reduction of the mass mean aerodynamic diameter (MMAD); as demonstrated (in vitro) with beclomethasone, budesonide and cromoglycate formulations.

Skyestabe™

The Skyestabe™ patented technology is designed to lubricate the valves in MDIs and improve dose uniformity throughout the shelf life and use of the product. The technology has been validated through the approval of one of SkyePharma's products and is fully acceptable for inhalation use.
