Flutiform is aimed at the market for combination steroid and long-acting beta-agonist inhalers
Flutiform™ is being developed for the treatment of asthma.
Flutiform™ HFA-MDI is a fixed-dose combination of formoterol and the inhaled steroid fluticasone in a metered dose inhaler. The product incorporates a fast onset long-acting beta agonist (formoterol) with the steroid (fluticasone), which is a commonly prescribed steroid in the USA, in combination with an environmentally friendly aerosol propellant.
Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and long-acting beta 2-adrenergic agonists combinations are the mainstay of therapy for asthma for patients who can not be controlled on single ICS alone ( 1, 2). Minimising the number of inhalers administered leads to greater patient compliance and simplification of disease management.
SkyePharma’s formulation and device offers stabilization of labile formoterol and is covered by the SkyeDry™ patent.
The specially designed inhaler is CFC-free and incorporates an inbuilt dose indicator to improve patient convenience.
Key features:
- Easy to use.
- Active dispersion of drug to the airways; flow rate independent
- Dose counter indicating number of doses remaining
- Small and portable.
