ZYFLO CR™
(zileuton) Extended-Release Tablets
Partner: Critical Therapeutics, Inc.
Reducing dose frequency by applying Geomatrix™ technology
SkyePharma developed a controlled-release formulation of zileuton for Critical Therapeutics. ZYFLO CR™ is a leukotriene synthesis inhibitor oral anti-inflammatory asthma drug, utilizing SkyePharma’s Geomatrix™ technology that allows the dosing to be reduced from four times a day to twice a day. ZYFLO CR™ received FDA approval in 2007 and was launched in the US in September 2007 for the prevention and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and children 12 years of age and older. ZYFLO CR™ is not indicated for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks. Therapy with ZYFLO CR™ and ZYFLO can be continued during acute exacerbations of asthma.
Through a co-promotion agreement with Dey, L.P., a subsidiary of Mylan Inc., Critical Therapeutics has increased the resources available for marketing ZYFLO CR™ in the US respiratory care market. SkyePharma is manufacturing the product in its plant in Lyon, France.
