Dr. Argeris (Jerry) Karabelas

Dr Karabelas was appointed to the Board as a Non-Executive Director in November 2000. Between February 2006 and November 2007, he served as Non-Executive Chairman of the Company. He is currently Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. Dr Karabelas is a partner at Care Capital LLC and serves as Chairman at several of Care Capital’s portfolio of companies, including NitroMed Inc, Vanda Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Cyreniac Pharmaceuticals and Inotek Pharmaceuticals Corporation. He is also a Chairman of Human Genome Sciences, Non-Executive Director of Minster Pharmaceuticals plc and a member of the scientific advisory board of Epigenesis Pharmaceuticals LLC and CardioKine Inc. Previously he was CEO of Novartis Pharma AG and served on the board of several other companies including Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc., Anadys Pharmaceuticals Inc., Renovo plc and the Fox Chase Cancer Center. He is a member of the visiting Committee for Health Sciences and Technology at MIT.
He holds a PhD in Pharmacokinetics from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
